A note from the director

Welcome to our magical production of Cinderella! It is with great joy and childlike-delight that we present you with a tale that has been near and dear to my heart since childhood. If you were to meet my mother and talk with her for some time, at some point, she would bring up a story about a five year old me in my beloved and coveted Cinderella nightgown; thus, I have always loved the story of Cinderella.

Her story is one of hope, resilience, and the triumph of dreams over adversity. She teaches us that no matter how dire the circumstances, with a little bit of help, and the giving of kindness (even to those who wish us to fail), that there is always hope for a brighter future.

Our talented cast and crew have poured their hearts into creating a world where dreams do come true! We hope as you watch the performance, you will be reminded of the magic that exists in everyday life and the importance of never giving up on your dreams, because as Marie tells us “It’s possible!” Have courage and lead with your heart.

Fun facts

  1. There are four musical adaptations of this classic tale. Ours is the “Broadway” adaptation, with all the beloved songs plus a sympathetic stepsister, a revolution, and a few new characters!
  2. Our set and costume design has some “Jackrabbit” pride. See if you can find all the references throughout the show!
  3. We auditioned and began rehearsing in December — 47 rehearsals, just a little under 10 weeks.
  4. Actors and tech crew rehearse 5 days a week for two and a half hours after school — sometimes on Saturdays and non-school days!
  5. 26 actors and 11 technicians make 37 students, plus two QHS Band students in the orchestra pit — 39 in all.
  6. Of the students participating, 23 are returning and 14 are new.
  7. Fourteen students in our cast are in their first live theatrical performance — including Owen Yeates (Topher) and Sophie Hart (Ella)!
  8. The tech crew has required “Saturday Build Days” to construct, paint, and fabricate the set, lights, and sound.
  9. 3 of the 11 technicians were costume assistants. Led by our seamstresses, they learned to design, sew, and chart the costumes.
  10. Like actors who audition, tech crew apply to join — and students in lead positions applied and interviewed for their roles!
  11. Nick Heuker’s advanced construction class built the carriage, the grand ballroom staircase, and the clock in Topher’s castle.
