A note from the director
“HIIIII!” I welcome and greet you in the “Puff’s” way as I am so pleased and thankful that you have chosen to spend your time with us for a while. Our story might remind you of another familiar story; however, for legal reasons I cannot actually state the name in writing! I can remember many instances in my childhood where I was reading (devouring) each of the seven books in the series that I cannot name. Rushing and lining up all dressed in costume with friends for the midnight releases of both the movies and books were quite the event. This story has always been special for me and the quote below truly conveys why…
“You know, I think eventually we all find that little part of us. The Puff. Maybe it’s there in the moments where you lose your keys. Or momentarily forget how old you are. Or maybe it’s the part of you that works hard, the part that remains loyal and true despite whatever terrifying monsters are thrown your way. The part that plays fair, even when life is anything but. Maybe that’s a Puff there.”
I challenge us all to embrace our inner Puff. How? By making the choice to stay loyal, to stay true, and above all; to stay kind when life just isn’t playing fair. See you in the common room!

Behind the scenes
Fun facts
- This production features over 300 sound cues and close to 300 props.
- It took 37 rehearsals for the cast and crew to bring the show to the stage.
- The original off-Broadway Puffs was created by friends who hoped it would run for three weeks at a comedy theatre. Now it delights audiences around the world.
- Actors chose their own lines in certain scenes — whichever they pick changes the flow of the conversation.
- The 15-foot doors at the center of the set, and every door you see, were built by Quincy High School’s Advanced Construction class.
- Some props and costumes were 3D printed, thanks to Warren Lybbert and Mr. Heuker’s 3D Printing class.
- 38 students were involved in this production, including 14 first-timers making their QHS debut.
- Puffs is set in the ’90s — watch for the throwback references.
- Writer Matt Cox also performed in the show, and apologizes in the script’s foreword for how many sound cues he included.
- The tech crew and tech leads developed the paint design for the set.
- Costumes are a mix of hand-made, thrifted, and the actors’ own everyday clothing.
- Owen Yeates, who plays Zach Smith, improvises his own Act II monologue every night.
